I have just finished updating this past weekend’s numbers, and I have a couple of insights to share with you. One, our Number One Dog All Breeds, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, and handler Phil Booth are having a very good year, arriving at the midyear mark with nearly 50,000 points, 20 percent more than the Number One Dog had at this point last year.
It’s also 20 percent more than the our Number Two Dog, the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova and handler Robin Novack. Both the GWP, Oakley, and the Springer, Peyton, each picked up a BIS this past week. After a couple of three- and four-BIS weeks, one seems almost unremarkable, until you figure out they do it every weekend.
Two dogs took full advantage of the big points available last week. The Number Three Dog, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, and breeder/owner/handler Jocelyn Mullins gained on the leaders with two BISs in Dallas worth nearly 4,000 points. The wins brought her within 3,000 of the Springer, Peyton. However, the dog that made the most impressive gains this week was the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky. Sky and handler Gabriel Rangel came away from the big and beautiful, three-day Summerfest in Ventura, CA, with 4,000 points, good enough to move her up four spots in the Top Ten, making the nation’s Number One Terrier, the Number Four Dog All Breeds.
Sky still trails the Doberman, FiFi, by almost 8,000 points and is closely followed by the rest of the Top Ten. She leads the Number Five Dog, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, by a scant 1,200 points. Finally one dog that had such a good weekend that she took Sunday off was the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box. Jewel and breeder/owner/handler Lisa Miller logged BACK2BACK BISs in Maryland, collecting enough points to put her within 400 points of a Top Ten berth. The country’s Number One Hound has been baying at the door for several weeks now. I suspect we will see her joining the group before the year is out.
I expect to see some breakout performances over the next 30 days. You will hear about them first on Dog Show Poop and Best In Show Daily. And that’s today’s Back Story.
