I promised in an earlier DFR, which I wrote before attending the National Dog Show Presented by Purina, that this blog would feature, in my own words and photographs, the benching area at this year’s NDS weekend!
People seemed to be everywhere at this show, both spectators and dog fanciers. The spectators were not only checking out the judging, but crowds of people thronged the benching area, strolling along to see just what each breed had to offer. For me, I rarely get to experience anything this big and exciting, so I took full advantage of the madness when I had a few minutes to spare.
Along the way, I had the pleasure of interacting with some of the fanciers and seeing what attracts the non-dog show folks. All the while, I pretended like I was just another person at a dog show wearing my “normal clothes” with a camera in one hand.
So that is exactly what I did. I strolled along like everyone else, asking politely if I could take a picture of this or that dog.
Little did they know I was taking photos of dogs like this…
Besides having an interest in the dogs in the benching areas, I was able to meet a few interesting spectators, one of whom was particularly inspiring. The young man told me that he stayed up all night drawing his favorite breeds by hand so he could attend the dog show to find each and every one of these dogs!
These types of moments rarely happen for me. When I’m at a show, I’m working on capturing photos of dogs in the ring. So I know that when I look back on this 30 minutes of my life, I will remember them with happiness for a very long time.
I hope that you, too, enjoy seeing this side of a dog show through my photos as much as I enjoyed taking them in real life!
See, I told you … Dogs Freakin’ Rule!
