I’m on my way to Kalamazoo, MI, for what promises to be a memorable Memorial Day weekend. I will be attending the Apple Blossom Cluster, one of three five-show clusters this week. The Apple Blossom Cluster, a remarkable demonstration of cooperation among the Pontiac Kennel Club, the Holland Michigan Kennel Club, the Grand Rapids Kennel Club, the Kalamazoo Kennel Club & the Greater Muskegon Kennel Club, will challenge the five-day Memorial Weekend Classic in New Castle, PA, hosted by the Laurel Highlands Kennel Association, the Trumbull County Kennel Club & the New Castle Kennel Club. Also offering a five-show option is the Atlantic Shore Memorial Classic brought to you by the Kennel Club Of Northern New Jersey, the Monmouth County Kennel Club, the Plainfield Kennel Club & the Union County Kennel Club.
If five days is one day too much for you, try a four-show stop in Hampton, VA, with the Langley Kennel Club & the Gloucester Kennel Club Of Virginia, or in Hamilton, OH, with the Warren County Kennel Club of Ohio & the Cincinnati Kennel Club, or in Bloomington, IL, with the Illinois Valley Kennel Club of Peoria & the Corn Belt Kennel Club, or in Tulsa, OK, with the Seminole Kennel Club & the
Mid-Continent Kennel Club of Tulsa, or in Pomona, CA, with the Antelope Valley Kennel Club, the San Fernando Kennel Club, the San Gabriel Valley Kennel Club & the Los Encinos Kennel Club.
We also have two split-venue four-day options to interest you. You will have to unpack & repack the SUV, and drive a little farther, but the scenery is glorious. Try doing Friday-Saturday in Casper, WY, with the Central Wyoming Kennel Club, then shuttling over to Laramie, WY, to join the hometown Laramie Kennel Club. Or try Saturday-Sunday in Spokane, WA, with the Spokane Kennel Club, then hurry on over to Coeur D’Alene, ID, for the Coeur D’Alene Dog Fanciers Monday-Tuesday shows. A traditional three-day holiday weekend is available in Placerville, CA, hosted by the Hangtown Kennel Club & the
Kennel Club of the California Sierra, and in Fairbanks, AK, courtesy of the Tanana Valley Kennel Club.
Finally, if you’d rather spend Memorial Day in a more traditional observance, you can still squeeze in a two-day visit to North Fort Meyers, FL, for the Greater Fort Meyers Dog Club’s Saturday-Sunday shows or in St. Peter, MN, for the Key City Kennel Club’s weekend.
Wherever you spend the weekend, stop and take a moment to thank the brave men and women of our armed services for all they have done to preserve our way of life. And that’s today’s Back Story.
