Each year in the small town of about 19,000 people, Farmington, Utah, holds one of the three all-breed dog shows in the state. Not only does this show have two all-breed show days, but two additional days full of specialties, obedience, rally and agility, plus lots of fun.

Here’s a quick rundown of the schedule:

  • • Beehive Toy Group of Utah, 9/12-9/13;
  • • Intermountain West Working Group Club, 9/12-9/13;
  • • Group IV Terrier Club of Salt Lake, 9/12-9/13;
  • • Great Salt Lake Dog Training Club, 9/13-9/15; and
  • Bonneville Basin Kennel Association, 9/14-9/15.

As requested, I bring you this info with the hope that before next Wednesday you will take the time to enter what, in my opinion, is the best show Utah has to offer. It may be the time of year it’s put on and/or the location, combined with what they have to bring to the fanciers. Whatever it is, it’s wonderful. And if you don’t already have a show planned, take a second look at this one to see if it’s right for you!

Since it is near my hometown, here are a few tips for what the surrounding areas are like. First off, Utah is a very relaxed and easygoing place full of nature, given we are surrounded by the beautiful mountains. In fact, the show grounds are literally right near the base of the canyon. You can see a little bit of what it looks like in my blog from last year’s show here and in my BISD photo album of the events here.

A small example of what the background looks like in many of the outside shots at this show.

You can find all the necessary details on where to stay and all that jazz in the premium list, but if you are looking for things like food, movies, or shopping, you’re in luck. In past years, there wasn’t really much in the area. Well not this year. A brand new shopping center is right around the corner. If you need more info, check out Station Park on Facebook! Lots of great stuff, and yes, there is a Starbucks.

Like I’ve said before, there’s nothing like a dog show in Utah. Entries close Wednesday, August 28. I hope to see lots of familiar faces and some new ones as well!
