Now that the RVs are actually in queue to unload in Orlando I can give you some predictions for this weekend‘s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (AENC).  Saturday evening’s Groups will be Hound, Toy, Sporting, & Non-Sporting in that order.  I expect the four dogs to advance will be the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, and the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s London.

The Whippet, Chanel, known as Cha Cha to her family, is the winningest Whippet in AKC history with 67 all breed Bests, 34 of which have come this year.  Chanel was also the Hound Group winner at the 2010 AENC and the Group winner at this year’s Wesminster Kennel Club show.  Chanel was bred by Diane Bowen, Lori Lawrence & Carey Lawrence, is owned by the Lawrences & Nicole Lawrence, and handled by Lori Wilson.

A Dutch native, the Affenpinscher, Joey, brought an impressive resume to the US.  He is the top winning Affenpinscher in European history, & was the Number One Dog All Breeds in the Netherlands in 2009.Among his most impressive wins was Reserve Winner at the huge 2010 World Dog Show in Denmark in 2010.  Joey was bred by Mieke Cooymans, is owned by Mieke & Zoila Truesdale, and handled by Ernesto Lara.

The Cocker, Beckham, the nation’s Number One Dog All Breeds, leads all dogs by more than 20,000 points with 58 BIS this year.  Beckham was bred by Linda Moore, is owned by Bruce Vandeman, Carolee Douglas, Mary Walker, & C Cassidy, and is handled Linda & Mike Pitts.

The Standard Poodle, London, has managed to hold onto the Number Nine All Breed spot despite having taken off a dozen or more weekends this year and takes 33 BIS into Orlando this weekend. London was bred and is owned by Sandra Tompkins & Chris Bailey with B Harris & MJ Winters, and handled by Ann Rairigh. (Photo by Jeffrey Hanlin)

Sunday wraps up with the Herding, Terrier, & Working Groups.  After it’s all over we believe the three left to face judge Polly Smith will be the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Babheim’s Captain Crunch, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Slyfox Sneaks A Peek, and the Boxer, GCH CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream.

The GSD, Capi, is another of the many imported dogs you will see in the regular classes this year.  Capi was the Number One Herding Dog and the Number Two Dog All Breeds last year in his native Mexico.  He is currently the Number One Herding Dog with 27 BIS and 92 Herding Group top prizes this year.  Capi was bred and is owned by Mexican judge Carlos Navarro and co-owned and handled by the legendary Jimmy Moses, and co-owned by D Stern, J Lange, & M Deschamps.  (Photo by Patt Kolesar)

The Smooth Fox, Adam, is the Number One Terrier in the US and was the 2010 AENC Terrier Group winner.  He also joined the Whippet in the 2011 Westminster final.  Adam has been shown a far fewer shows than most of our top dogs, but has still managed to stay in the Top 15 Dogs All Breeds all year.  Adam, who has 20 BIS this year, was bred by Joan Taggart & Mark Taggart, is owned by James W Smith, and handled by Edward A Boyes.

The Boxer, Scarlett, holds down the Number Three Dog All Breeds spot, with 33 all breed Bests & 97 Working Groups.  Always stylishly presented by Diego Fernando Garcia, Scarlett was bred by Tina Porter & Lee Stanton, and is owned by Debbie McCarroll, Mark Fagan, Mrs Jack (Pat) Billhardt, & Sergio Tenenbaum.

I always say, “Don’t bet the lunch money”, but if I had the money Mitt Romney has, I would bet that the country’s Number One Dog this year, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, will be the Number One Dog
