The show year is fully underway and I have been poring through the early catalogs.  Here are a couple of things that I thought you might find interesting.

Pequest devon with breeder/handler David Fitzpatrick

First, the Fancy’s most respected Pekingese breeder and handler, David Fitzpatrick, went Best in Show yesterday, from the Bred By Exhibitor Class, at the Northern Neck Kennel Club Of Virginia in Fredericksburg VA, with his newest Peke prodigy, the 18 month old Pequest Devon.  David is one of the most familiar faces in the ring today, most recently showing the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, to the Number Two Dog All Breeds position in both 2010 & 2011.

David is the most successful Pekingese breeder/handler ever in AKC, showing hundreds of his & client’s dogs to their championships.  In 2005 he piloted CH Yakee If Only to the top of AKC’s all breed rankings, finishing  with 128 career BIS and breaking a 50 year old breed record. becoming the winningest Toy Dog of all times.   In 2006 Dogs In Review magazine selected David as Profession Handler of the Year and in 2009 AKC designated David the Toy Group Breeder of the Year.  You can bet that Devon and David (I like the sound of that!) will soon becoming to a show near you.

At the same show, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Sakura, picked up a Group Two.  She was bred by Yukiko Omura., is owned by Ron Scott & Debbie Burke, and handled by  Kaz Hosaka, the same team that brought you  CH Smash Jp Win a Victory, the Number One Dog All Breeds in 2007.  Vikki & Kaz collected a career 108 BIS, making her the Top Toy Poodle in AKC history.  More recently team Smash showed the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Smash Dream Walker, to  a Number Six Dog  All Breeds finish in 2009.  Walker went on to become a “smash” in Europe & Asia in 2010, handled by Toshinori Omura.  You can look up Smash Poodles in your doggy dictionary under “consistency”.

CH Of Skyeline Captain Hook

Finally. Handler Larry Cornelius, grabbed a Terrier Group One last weekend at the Columbiana County Kennel Club show in Tallmadge OH with a Skye Terrier from Finland, CH Of Skyeline Captain Hook.  Last season Larry handled the Skye, GCH CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, to a career record 41 BIS.  Those of you with sharp eyes and  good memories may recall seeing Captain Hook take a Group Three at the prestigious Montgomery County Kennel Club show in 2008.  Larry & the Captain took the breed today on the first day of the Florida Marathon.   I think my 2012 Terrier dance card is getting awfully full.

You can check for today’s results at the Fredericksburg VA & Brooksville FL shows in a couple of hours over on my blog, Dog Show Poop.   Check back with me tomorrow here for more Back Stories.
