‘A Dog Is Listening,’ plus the Buzz About Briards

Senior Editor Christi McDonald shares one of her favorite books, and remembers the prolific life and career of its passionate author. “A Dog Is Listening: The Way Some of Our Closest Friends View Us” was written by Roger Caras, whom many remember as “the Voice of Westminster” for 23 years. Find out about the man who became the president of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and learn how one of his more than 70 published books simply reflects his devotion to dogs.

The handsome Briard is a herding dog that guards, and a guarding dog that herds. The centuries- old breed with ties to a French king and a U.S. president has been defending flocks of sheep since the Middle Ages. Learn about the many signature features that distinguish the breed from all but its closest cousin.

Many of this year’s top show dogs are featured in their own beautiful mini-websites on Best In Show Daily. Simply click on a banner ad to see the dog’s up-to-date show history, plus a slide show of photos that reveals exactly why it’s a top dog.
