This Weekend’s Winners

GCH CH Surrey Sugar Baby

Once again, the week’s shows have resulted in some significant wins. Here are some of the dogs that had great results.

The Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Surrey Sugar Baby, reminded us all that there is more to the Non-Sporting Group than Standard Poodles. Sugar Baby started the week barely in the Top 50 Dogs All Breeds, but will head to the shows this week knocking on the door of the Top 20, after consecutive Bests in Show in West Springfield, MA. Sugar Baby is now the Number Three Non-Sporting Dog.

The large entries in Glendale, AZ, provided an opportunity that three dogs thoroughly exploited. The Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, currently the nation’s Number Two Terrier, had much to gain after learning that the Number One Terrier, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, may not return to the show ring anytime soon. She made the most of the week with a BIS and three additional Terrier Groups, a performance that moved her up two spots in the all-breed rankings to Number 15. Yesterday I mentioned that this coming weekend’s Sacramento Kennel Club shows would have huge Terrier entries thanks to two all-Terrier prelims. Could be a good place for a Terrier looking to move up the rankings.

The Number 11 Dog All Breeds, the Boxer, GCH CH R and G’s Mystical Dancer, also won his group all four days and a BIS. Danny gained a little on the Number Ten Dog, but still is 1,500 points away from joining the elite Top Ten. AKC’s Number Two Dog All Breeds, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, also swept all four groups in Arizona, adding the BIS at Monday’s Arrowhead Kennel Club show. It allowed Oakley to gain a little ground on the Number One Dog and a little distance on the Number Three Dog, both of whom also scored single Bests in Show.

At the other end of the rankings, we have the 83rd ranked all-breed dog, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding V Sole Baye, who went to Valley Center, KS, for four days and came home with a Group Three, two Group Twos & a BIS, a set that should be good for about 20 rungs of the ladder. Handler Bergit Kabel had to be smiling all the way home.

2012 continues to be a year full of surprises and tight races. Check back with us daily for more of The Back Story.

Why might the Kerry Blue not come back?

Yes, I would also like to know why the Kerry might not be coming back to the ring.

Only the owners know and they have not told any of us.
