A Junior’s Award-Winning Video, plus Shows Closing May 1, 2013

Diana Chan is a junior handler whose relationship with her dog created a minor Internet sensation. As part of a college application the 17 year old from Connecticut produced a video that went viral among dog fanciers around the world. Watch Diana’s short film and you’ll see for yourself why her clever production landed her a very special award.

In her weekly look at upcoming shows that offer a spectacular array of enticements, Senior Editor Christi McDonald points us toward a show that’s holding a two-breed Meet the Breeds event. While at first it may sound odd, Christi says it makes perfect sense when the hosts are the regional breed clubs in the area. Find out what else Indiana’s Kokomo Kennel Club has up its proverbial sleeve, as well as Greater Kingsport KC in Gray, Tenn., and the Mt. Baker KC in Mount Vernon, Wash.

Be sure to check out our photo galleries, where you’ll find recent winners and candid photos from shows held near and far. Just click on Show Scene below the masthead banner, or select any of the images in the left-hand column of our home page.

It not only gives spectators an opportunity to learn something about those specific breeds and to meet a few dogs “in person,” it also gives them a chance to interact with purebred dog people and to find out that we’re not monsters, just people who love dogs too. more

In November of 2012, a friend sent me a link to a video. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but after watching it I realized why my friend wanted to share it with me. It is not only artistic and well put together, it’s also very moving. more
