A Spectacular of Specialties

The eyes of the dog world are fixed on metropolitan New York this weekend as fanciers gather for an endless array of meetings, parties, benefits and awards ceremonies. Each event celebrates the diversity of the purebred dog and the community of people that promotes their preservation.

From Long Island to the New Jersey Meadowlands and in hotel ballrooms throughout the city, fanciers are likewise gathering to compete at several dozen specialty shows on the eve of the fancy’s magnetic marvel – Westminster!

For serious breeders, specialties set the stage where their hard work and commitment can be measured. The competition is intense, as entries are often quite large in response to judging panels made up of noted breed authorities. Breeder-judges are often brought in from a breed’s country of origin and a victory under one of them is especially coveted.

This weekend, exhibitors of many breeds, from Doberman Pinschers and Chihuahuas to Dandie Dinmont Terriers and Golden Retrievers, will have ample opportunity to add a specialty win to their career highlights. The excitement in and around those rings will be felt throughout the dog world, and Best In Show Daily will bring the results directly to you on Sunday and Monday mornings.
