The superstorm that has devastated so many communities along the Atlantic coast has caused a number of dog clubs to cancel their events scheduled for this weekend.
The Staten Island Companion Dog Training Club was forced to cancel its all-breed agility trial November 2-4 in nearby Sewaren, N.J. The New York City borough and the shore towns of New Jersey were particularly hard-hit by Superstorm Sandy. The grounds where the trial was to take place have been deemed “unsafe.”
The Burlington County Kennel Club has also canceled its Coursing Ability Test scheduled for this weekend in Colts Neck, N.J. The two-day event, scheduled for November 3-4 at the Upper Polo Field of the Bucks Mill Recreation Center, has not been rescheduled at this time.
Events planned for this weekend outside of the New York-New Jersey area will take place as scheduled. The two-day all-breed shows of the Back Mountain Kennel Club will go on this weekend at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds in Bloomsburg, Pa.
Superstorm Sandy pummeled the nation’s most densely populated region when it came ashore on Monday. Tens of millions of residents have been affected as widespread power outages continue throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
All of us at Best In Show Daily extend our deepest concern for the well-being of those affected. We encourage anyone who needs help, or is able to offer assistance, to utilize our Forums and Facebook page to connect with others in our community.
Event cancellations may also be found on the AKC website.
