AKC Eukanuba National Championship Day 1

Dateline: Orlando
Forget the Mouse House this week, Orlando has gone to the dogs. It’s been a terrific week as the top dogs from around the world meet on the blue carpet. More than 4000 dogs will compete for top prizes and to earn top spot on the coveted Trophy.

Yesterday’s judging awarded ribbons to Top Juniors, the Sporting Group, The Hound Group, The Toy Group, The Non-Sporting Group. The evening started with a moving rendition of the Star Spangled Banner sung by Rebecca Cross.

Next we were treated to the future of our Sport, the Juniors. This year’s group of young handlers truly shone. Incredibly accomplished both in and out of the ring, they’re poised, articulate, disciplined, devoted to their dogs and their craft. Most of these youngsters are straight A students (to compete at AENC, a minimum 3.0 GPA is required), often leaders in their schools in addition to competing every weekend. They also have a strong support network of mentors, professional handlers, breeders and their parents. Congratulations to all the Juniors and their support teams for getting to AKC Eukanuba. The Top Junior was Katelynn Edgecombe with her pug. Here are all the winners:
