FEBRUARY 2013 AKC BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

New York, NY – Highlights from the February 7-8, 2013 meeting of the AKC Board of Directors are as follows. Full details on these actions, as well as other actions taken, are included in the minutes for the meeting, which will be posted on the AKC website.

  • ·         The American Hairless Terrier, the Norrbottenspets, the Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen, and the Portuguese Podengo will become eligible to compete in the Miscellaneous Class, effective January 1, 2014.

  • ·         The Board appointed a Legal Outreach Committee to open lines of communication with the legal community. The committee is to be chaired by David Hopkins, with members William Feeney, Martha Feltenstein, Barbara Penny, Margaret Poindexter, and Sheila Goffe. The committee is to report back to the Board with goals and a business plan.

  • ·         An asterisk is to be used to designate provisional judges (those with provisional status for the breeds when the panel was approved) in premium lists and judging programs, effective July 1, 2013. An asterisk will also be used to designate Delegate Judges in the Judges Directory.

  • ·         The policy on Visiting Judges was amended to approve Visiting Judges for a group even though they are not eligible to judge all the breeds in that group, as long as they are eligible to judge the breeds constituting at least 80% of the annual entries in that group at the time they are first approved. This will include judges eligible to award CACs in their own country. Previously visiting judges in FCI member countries had to be eligible to award CACIBs in their own countries.

  • ·         The requirement that a Permit judge be observed was eased. If after six Permit assignments, a Permit judge has not been observed by an AKC Executive Field Representative, that judge will be advanced to regular status.

  • ·         Effective April 1, 2013, AKC will recognize and record Barn Hunt titles earned at Barn Hunt Association events. Owners may apply to have these titles recorded by AKC on a form that will be prepared by the Performance Event department.
