American Water Spaniel, GCH CH Game Crk Hot Diggity

I’m still assembling all the numbers from the big Memorial Day weekend, but our top dogs are already back out there this week adding to their point total. The Number One Dog All Breeds, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, is down in Biloxi, MS, and had already collected two BIS at the Riverside West Kennel Club Of Greater New Orleans Thursday & Friday shows.

Last week the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova, picked up three big BIS to take over the Number Three spot. Peyton is at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, MO, this weekend along with the Number Two Dog, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol Veni Vidi Vici. Both dogs have grabbed two Group Ones and one BIS each so far, maintaining the status quo, but moving a little more out ahead of the rest of the pack.

The Number One Hound in the country, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, posted BACK2BACK BIS last week and has started this week with another, taking today’s Charlottesville-Albemarle Kennel Club show in Albemarle, VA. Jewel has been making an all-out assault on the Top Ten’s backdoor for the past month. This could be the week she joins the club.

Other Top Twenty Dogs winning all-breed Bests this weekend are the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, who won the Butte County Kennel Club’s day one show in Gridley, CA, and the Pekingese, GCH CH Windemere a Dusting of White at Pevyne, who took the BCKC day two event. Finally, as a cheerleader for the rarer breeds, I am delighted to report the American Water Spaniel, GCH CH Waterway Game Crk Hot Diggity, has posted his second BIS in the last week. The latest came today in Woodstock IL at the Fox River Valley Kennel Club show. Digger is the only AWS to win a BIS in the last four years and he has three this year. Which one of you AWS owners out there can tell us if that’s a record?

We will be back at the computer tomorrow to bring you more show reports on Dog Show Poop and more of the Back Story from around the rings here on Best In Show Daily.

Great Pyrenees are an ancient breed descended from the sheep guards used by the Aryans, who migrated throughout Europe from what is now Persia or Iran. as a result of this westward migration, we now have a cousin flock of guard breeds in the Tatra, the Kuvasz, the Maremma, and Sloserto. The Pyrenean mastiff is on the Spanish side of the mountains while the Pyrenean Mountain canine is on the French side. None of for mentioned breeds actually dncedesed from each other, but are rather offshoots of the similar ancient ancestor. Louis XIV of France, as dauphin, brought them to Versailles and they became the canine of France. They continued to guard sheep in the mountains at the Chateau de Foix in medieval times. during the two world Wars, they carried messages between outposts and command posts. in their native mountains, they worked with the small Pyrenean shepherd who did the actual herding while the Pyrenean guarded against predators. The great Pyrenees is a descendant of the Hungarian Kuvasz and the Maremmano-Abruzzese. The breed is considered to be the aristocratic relative of the Newfoundland and the Saint Bernard. remains of a canine similar to the great Pyrenees were discovered in Europe and dated back to the yr 1800 BC. it’s extremely likely that the breed actually originated much earlier in Siberia or Asia. throughout its native country of France, the great Pyrenees includes a lengthy history as a guard canine of sheep and chateaux. These canines were greatly sought after by French nobility throughout the seventeenth century. The AKC officially recognized the breed in 1933.
