Catch Me in Kalamazoo, Day Three

Grand Rapids Kennel Club: Saturday, May 26, 2012

8 a.m.

Topshelfs Pink Lady, a "Landseer" pattern Newfoundland

Because today’s entry of 1,730 dogs is the largest of the five days, we are getting an early start. I am going to head to Dr. Anthony DiNardo’s ring to watch him go over 40 Newfoundlands for an entry supported by the Newfoundland Club of America. After dreading a forecast predicting very warm temperatures, exhibitors were greeted by cool temperatures driven by frequently hard rain. Perfect for watching Newfies! Most people think of Newfoundlands dressed in the iconic black, but brown and gray are also acceptable, as is a parti-color called Landseer, which is white with any of the accepted colors. Best Of Breed was GCH CH Topshelf Eye of the Hurricane.

10 a.m.

Next up on my schedule is a visit to the ring of the man from Montevideo, Uruguay, Adrian Landarte. I made it under the tent just ahead of the rain. First up are seven English Setters. Best English Setter was GCH CH Kaska’s Capture the Moment.

Before judge Landarte gets to the Gordon Setters, nine Great Pyrenees will try their luck in the rain. Not surprisingly, everyone performed like troopers. The one that impressed the the judge was GCH CH Rivergroves Star Sapphire.

For a man who thinks of himself as a writer and not much of a photographer, your pictures came out very good. Pat on the back.
