Crufts Terriers and Hounds, plus an Interview with Ronnie Irving, Part One

Best In Show Daily presents a pair of reports on the first day’s judging at Crufts. Senior Editor Bo Bengtson is in Birmingham, England, to capture the magic of the world’s largest dog show, and Senior Editor Christi McDonald delivers a special edition Fancy That featuring the Terriers and Hounds that made the cut. Meet the Skye Terrier and Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen that will represent their Groups in Sunday night’s finale.

Bo’s also had a chance to pose a few questions to Ronnie Irving, former chairman of the Kennel Club and the man behind the controversial “Health Test” concept. Fourteen high profile breeds were singled out during last year’s Crufts dog show, and Bo asks about the Kennel Club’s position on the veterinary examinations. Learn more about the visual observations and find out why Crufts was chosen as the place to initiate the vet checks.

Best In Show Daily invites you to share your knowledge and experience with our readers – among the most active participants in the dog game. If you’ve written an article you’d like to see published on Best In Show Daily or would like to pen one, please email me at dan@bestinshowdaily.

Fancy That: Crufts, Day One
By Christi McDonald

The biggest, and some say best, dog show the world over began today in Birmingham, England, at the gargantuan National Exhibition Centre, a collection of interconnected halls that house the show’s benching and the big rings where breed judging takes place, as well as the most amazing array of vendors you can find at any dog event anyplace on the planet. more

Crufts 2013: Day 1, Terriers and Hounds
By Bo Bengtson

If there’s one thing I’m sure of it’s that everyone who’s seriously interested in dogs and dog shows should go to Crufts at least once in their lifetime. There’s no other place that dogs play such an important part in the general life of the human population as they do in England, and nowhere is this more evident than at Crufts. more
