Did You See That?

GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Sivler Charm

You would be hard-pressed to find a more exciting dog show season than we have had this year. Just take this past weekend as an example. While I focus a lot on our Top Twenty Dogs all breeds, this season has had a host of mid- and late-season breakout performances that gives any show in any location the potential for a really special appearance.

Our Top Two dogs, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, and the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova, kept the race for Number One Dog a nail-biter, each posting multiple BIS wins this week. However, a number of multiple BIS performances thrilled the galleries around the US this week.

GCH CH Winfall I Dream of Style

The Boxer, GCH CH Winfall I Dream of Style, spent last year watching her sister, GCH CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, climb all the way to the Number Three All Breed spot. This year Macey and handler Mike Shepherd have been impressing spectators and judges throughout the country while collecting 15 BIS. The latest two came in BACK2BACK wins at the Sooner State Kennel Club’s two shows in Enid OK this weekend.

GCH CH Vogelflight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk

In Mason City IA, the country’s Number One Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogelflight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk, collected two consecutive BIS to bring his total to seven on the year. Even more impressive are the 56 Non-Sporting Groups Honor & handler Lisa Bettis have amassed.

If you are a Poodle fan, you know that the most prominent name in Toy Poodles is Smash Toy Poodles. The Japanese kennel dominates the variety all over the globe. A Smash Toy Poodle has been number one in the variety in the US for at least the last seven years. While the East Coast resident, GCH CH Smash Jp Sakura, leads the variety this year, another Smash Toy Poodle has got people buzzing out west. GCH CH Smash Winning Ribbon and handler Curtis Smith posted the hat trick, three consecutive BIS, in Los Lunas NM this past week.

GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box

Another BIS this past week is noteworthy, the American Foxhound’s, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box’s, BIS at Saturday’s Catonsville Kennel Club show in West Friendship MD. Jewel and breeder/owner/handler Lisa Miller’s 26th top prize moved them into the Number Ten Dog All Breeds spot, after several weeks sitting in the Number Eleven position.

Few things in life are more thrilling than seeing great performers when they first start out. I will always remember seeing Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin in “Evita” in San Francisco in the ’70s, before the show went to Broadway and won Tony awards for its stars. Get out to your local shows, and look for your own DOG2WATCH. And that’s today’s Back Story.
