LAST WEEK I promised a column that was bit more upbeat, that focused on something positive going on in the world of dogs here in the UK and I’m pleased to say it’s a project that I am very closely involved with.

You have all heard of Jilly’s Jolly Jaunt, and hopefully you’ll have seen some of the video that was filmed during the week-long 140 mile walk undertaken by Gavin Robertson and Amelia Siddle back in June. En route Gavin and Amelia were joined by dozens of dog folk from all breeds and all groups all keen to help Gavin – who handled Ch Soletrader Peek a Boo to best in show at Crufts in March – turn a dream into a reality. more

21st Annual Westminster Dog of the Year competition

WHILE politicians in the US were wrangling over – well to be honest over here in the UK we’re not sure what they were wrangling about – national politicians here were grooming their pet dogs to take part in the other Westminster, Westminster Dog of the Year. more


Midland Counties 2013 – Best in show

Tom Mather was the Best in Show judge at the penultimate general championship show of 2013, Midland Counties where his seven group winners were the Border Collie, Deerhound, Boxer, Bichon Frise, Standard Poodle, Wire Fox Terrier and Golden Retriever. See more here

AKC Pet Disaster Relief Rolls Out Help For Pets Across The Country

Raleigh, NC — AKC Pet Disaster Relief, a program dedicated to keeping pets and their owners safe during storms, fires and other natural or civil disasters, presented its first-ever trailer to emergency officials from North Carolina’s Pamlico County. The trailer was presented to Chris Murray of Pamlico County Emergency Management during a ceremony held at the Agriculture Building Plaza in downtown Raleigh attended by representatives from the Department of Agriculture, including Director, Emergency Programs Sharron Stewart, and the Department of Public Safety, including Deputy Secretary Ellis Boyle, as well as State Representative Michael Speciale. more

EXPERT AVAILABLE: Pet Owners Should Be Aware but Not Panic about Tainted Pet Treats, MU Expert Says

COLUMBIA, Mo. – On Oct. 22, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a request to veterinarians around the country for their assistance in identifying pets that were potentially sickened as a result of consuming tainted chicken jerky pet treats. Since 2007, the FDA has received more than 3,500 reports of pet illnesses related to the consumption of jerky treats, resulting in 580 pet deaths. more
