Dog Show Drama

AKC’s Number One Dog All Breeds
GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm

The operative word for our Monday Morning Mop-Up is “DRAMA.” The most dramatic event was the three head-to-head meetings of AKC’s Top Two Dogs All Breeds, the German Wirehaired Pointer, Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, and the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova in Canfield, OH.

The Springer, Peyton, would take the first two rounds at Friday’s and Saturday’s Columbiana County Kennel Club and Beaver County Kennel Club shows, winning the Sporting Groups and collecting the BIS at the latter. The GWP, Oakley, would prevail at Sunday’s Mahoning-Shenango Kennel Club, winning the Sporting Group and the Reserve Best in Show. A week ago, Peyton was 4,000 points behind Oakley, but after seven straight days of shows, three BISs, three additional Group Ones and a big Group Two, Peyton has cut that lead to under 1,000 points.

Mother Nature would intervene in Keene, NH, interrupting the Cheshire Kennel Club with a fierce thunderstorm that jolted Wheelock Park with lightning strikes and left the show grounds flooded. The show was canceled after six Groups with just the Non-Sporting Group and Best in Show remaining. Considering that there was one death and multiple injuries at a NASCAR race at the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania, the dog fanciers in Keene can count themselves blessed.

Not quite as dramatic, but pretty impressive nonetheless, was the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, return to the Top Ten Dogs All Breeds with the BIS at Sunday’s Mahoning-Shenango Kennel Club show. Other Top Ten Dogs that posted BIS this weekend were the Number Three Dog, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, who was Tim Catterson’s choice at Thursday’s Fort Steuben Kennel Association show in Canfield; the Number Four Dog, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky who took both of the big rosettes at the Richmond Dog Fanciers Club’s two shows in Dixon, CA; the Number Six Dog, the Kuvasz, GCH CH Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence, BIS at yesterday’s Coulee Kennel Club show in Winona, MN; and the Number Seven Dog, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, with BACK2BACK BISs at Thursday’s Louisiana Kennel Club show & Friday’s Metairie Kennel Club show in Kenner, LA.

With this kind of drama, I suggest you set your DVR to record you favorite Olympic events and visit your local KC show. You never know the drama you will witness. And that’s today’s Back Story.
