Dog Show Language, plus Shows Closing July 17, 2013

Senior Editor Bo Bengtson welcomes Best In Show Daily readers to the wonderful world of breed standards, “complete with expressions you’ve never heard before, many of which are difficult to understand.” The word picture painted by a standard can sometimes leave readers – novice and veteran alike – a bit bewildered. Learn about some of the peculiar words and phrases intended to distinguish one breed from all others.

The summer season is in full swing, and many clubs are going out of their way to ensure that everyone has a good time at their events. Senior Editor Christi McDonald introduces the fun that awaits exhibitors at upcoming shows scheduled in Illinois, Louisiana, Ohio and Virginia. Find out where an entry fee can be as low as $20, and where a dog show and a movie go hand-in-paw.

Be sure to check out our photo galleries, where you’ll find recent winners and candid photos from shows held near and far. Just click on Show Scene below the masthead banner, or select any of the images in the left-hand column of our home page.

By Christi McDonald

Shows are sponsored by the Fort Steuben Kennel Association and the Columbiana County, Beaver County and Mahoning-Shenango Kennel Clubs and held at the fairgrounds in Canfield, Ohio. more
