Dogs in Your Living Room and Aboard the Mayflower
Today’s Thanksgiving Day broadcast of the National Dog Show Presented by Purina, hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia, was merely an idea at NBC Sports just 10 years ago. This year’s broadcast, scheduled from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in all time zones, is expected to draw nearly 20 million dog-loving viewers and provide enormous exposure for purebred dogs. Editor Susan Chaney examines how this highly rated television event has become a family holiday tradition for so many.
Senior Editor Christi McDonald shares a dog-gone good Thanksgiving Day story about a pair of purebreds that sailed from England on board the Mayflower. The historical record indicates that two dogs belonging to John Goodman came to the New World with the Pilgrims who settled the Plymouth Colony. Find out about the Mastiff and Spaniel that were possibly the first of their kind to set foot in North America.
