I’ve been manning the iPad & iPhone this morning, texting, tweeting & talking to various people around the country this morning. While we don’t have many big shows this week, the plethora of shows makes it all more likely that you will get to see some of the best dogs in the U.S. no matter where you are.

Yesterday’s St. Hubert Kennel Club show in North Stonington, CT, was a good example. Only 418 dogs showed up to compete, but Fred Ferris’ final was chockablock with multiple BIS winners, including the Number Six Dog All Breeds, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari; the Number 17 dog, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH D’s Remember When; Number 18, the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Babheim’s Captain Crunch; and Number 21, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Lomondview Clementina. Accompanying the Affenpinscher, Dobie & GSD was a trio of the best of our professional handling ranks, Ernesto Lara, Gwen DeMilta & Jimmy Moses, each alone worth the price of admission. The Affenpinscher & GSD will be back in Helene Nietsch’s final today. However, Gwen & the Doberman, Jackson, have already collected the Best of Breed at the day two show of the Chester Valley Kennel Club in Ludwigs Corner, PA.

I expect that all 13 sites with shows today to have their share of top dogs and top handlers. Keep your eyes open for the surprise entry. For example, breeder-owner/handler Beth Sweigert’s Affenpinscher, CH Yarrow’s Hi-Tech Ben There Done That, took the breed today in Pennsylvania. Best In Show Daily also has Pilar Kuhn on site in Victorville, CA, for today’s Apple Valley Kennel Club show. Look for Pilar’s reports on the BISD Facebook & Twitter pages. I will be updating this post throughout the day as I get bits & pieces of The Back Story. Don’t forget to check my reports on the Best In Show & Group winners over on Dog Show Poop.

Here’s one of the more pleasant surprises so far this weekend.  The seven year old Giant Schnauzer bitch, GCH CH Skansen’s C’Sofia of Grandur, was BIS today in Connecticut.  I was surprised to find that it was Sofia’s first BIS as she had been mentioned frequently as a Group winner on Dog Show Poop over the past four years.  Sofia is one of over 1,000 champions and grand champions bred by the remarkable Sylvia Hammarstrom of Sebastopol CA.  That is mind boggling.

Earlier this week I told you that the bottom half of our Top Twenty was very tight.  I just heard that the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH D’s Remember When, was Jean Fournier’s Best at today’s Chester Valley KC show.  The Doberman, Jackson, started the week as the Number 17 dog.  His two BIS so far could move him all the way up to 13 pending how those above him do today and tomorrow,

Two more of our Top Five have posted BISs today, making the rankings all the more interesting.  Number Two, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, seeks to regain the Number One position with a win today at the Scott County Kennel Club show in Rock Island IL, while the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova, grabbed the BIS at the opener of thefour day set in Albuquerque NM.  Check back with us tomorrow to see who ends up where.
