Fresh Faces

Over on Dog Show Poop, I give a lot of attention to the Top Ten Dogs in AKC, but I am always on the hunt for some fresh face, the dog that catches my eye as I walk through the show hall. Despite the fact that we are halfway through the year, there are still new dogs showing up on the show scene. Some of these dogs are true newbies who have just begun their show careers. Others are dogs that have done some winning in the past, but have suddenly caught fire.

CH Penndragon Owain

One of the newbies is the striking, white Standard Poodle, CH Penndragon Owain. Owen burst onto the scene back in April, taking Best of Winners at the Poodle Club of America’s National Specialty at 22 months of age. Since then, he has finished his championship and collected four BIS in the last month.

GCH CH Hill Country’s Tag I’m It

The 15-month-old Pug, GCH CH Hill Country’s Tag I’m It, opened his specials career six weeks ago, taking BACK2BACK BIS in Alexander, NY. JJ has been the overachiever from day one, finishing his championship at just 7 months of age. In the last six weeks, JJ and handler Barry Clothier have picked up three BIS and nine Toy Groups.

GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara

The 5-year-old Saluki bitch, GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara, is no newbie. Bubbles had one BIS and six Hound Groups in limited showing in 2011, but this year she and handler Erin Roberts have seven BIS and 19 Hound Groups.

GCH CH Clussexx Collaboration With Traddles

The Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Collaboration With Traddles, was a multiple BIS winner in Colombia before winning his first AKC show back in February in Arizona. Since then, Seymour and handler Jorge Olivera have collected five additional all-breed Bests including BACK2BACK BIS this past weekend in Ferndale, CA.

So, the next time you are at an AKC dog show, check out some of the dogs you haven’t seen before, and let me know if there’s another fresh face out there we should know about. And that’s today’s Back Story.
