Happy Valentine’s from Texas Corgi Rescue – Share the Love

Want a unique Valentine for your friends and family in the dog fancy? Want to help them all keep their weight loss resolutions by not giving them candy? Want to do two good deeds with one donation?

The Top of Texas Corgi Rescue has the perfect solution for you. Russell-Stover Chocolates (www.russellstover.com) released a special box of chocolates with a Corgi pup for Valentine’s Day. These cute boxes have an adorable Corgi puppy on the box top. Inspired by the new Corgi design and looking to benefit others in need, the top three directors of ToTCR, Shella Barclay, the President, John Hefley, the Vice President, and Gail Hanson-Hefley, purchased one hundred and twenty boxes of candy to give as Valentine’s to the 120 disabled veterans living at the VA Community Living Center in Amarillo, Texas.

As Gail puts it, “We wanted to ensure that our veteran heroes know that they are loved, appreciated and their service to our Country is honored. There is also an opportunity to raise funds for CorgiAid.” Corgi Aid is the national assistance organization for Corgis and Corgi mixes in need. The dilemma was how to combine the two good works. The Club came up with a unique & rewarding solution: have people donate to a PayPal account where every penny will go to Corgi Aid. In return for the donation, the donors’ names will be put on cards that will go to the veterans along with the candy boxes. Here is your chance to make a donation in your special Valentine’s name!

As an extra treat, each box of candy will also have a personal note from Millie J. Williams, author of “The Watching” the annual Corgi Christmas book that is a big fundraiser for Corgi Aid. Her note will thank the veterans for their service to our country and also explain a bit about the Corgi Nation.

At the end of the fundraiser, all of the donors’ names will go into a drawing for a couple of Starbucks gift cards and their names will be passed on to Corgi Aid along with the donated money. There is a complete explanation on the Facebook page, Valentines for Veterans-Benefiting CorgiAid.

The Texan Corgi lovers feel strongly about supporting our veterans. “We all have family and friends that have served this country. We believe that our Veterans should be honored and remembered each day. We hope that we can brighten their day and let them know that they are remembered, loved, and appreciated.” At the same time, Corgis in need everywhere will benefit as well.

By making a Valentine donation you can be a hero too – twice over – once for the veterans and once for the Corgis. Or donate in a special friend’s name and they get the hero credit. Either way it is a win/win situation.

Paws up to the Top of Texas Corgi Rescue folks for a clever and wonderful Valentine’s Day idea!
