Hernando County Kennel Club Wrap Up

The Hernando County KC show weekend ended Sunday afternoon, November 10th, with judge Ms. Joy Brewster awarding Leah Monte & Armando Angelbello’s Miniature Pinscher GCh. Marlex Classic Red Glare the Best in Show rosette. A day earlier judge Mrs. Molly Martin presented the red, white & blue to Victor Malzoni Jr & Cragsmoor Kennels Reg’s Skye Terrier Ch. Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie.

This was the eight consecutive year HCKC has put on licensed all breed conformation, obedience and rally shows at the Lockhart Road grounds.

HCKC President Carole Amundsen brought in Hernando County Commissioners Wayne Dukes on Saturday and Diane Rowden on Sunday to present the Best In Show awards. The club has always maintained good relations with the County Board and the commissioners seemed very pleased to be apart of the shows.

Over at the obedience/rally rings – a comfortable distance from the breed rings and under the trees – High Scoring Dog in Trial both Saturday and Sunday was Reginald & Ellen Cobb’s Bouviers des Flandres Briarlea Nina de la Luz. Saturday’s win was out of Open B with a 196 and Sunday’s efforts resulted in both HIT and High Combined with a 194.5 from Open B and 185 in Utility B. Meanwhile, in the Rally rings, 27 qualifying scores were earned including a perfect 100.0 by Shetland Sheepdog Summerloves Bark of the Bay BN RN NAJ NA NF owned by Maureen Koepp.

The weekend began Thursday and Friday with eight breeds from the Florida Combined Specialties using the grounds for their shows. Several breeds had very good entries; Shetland Sheepdogs came in with 48 dogs followed closely by 47 Afghans and 42 Salukis.

The weather cooperated beautifully for the entire weekend, maybe being a little bit warm even for Florida in early November, but the breeze continued atop the hill – as always -and the tents provided a good amount of shade for our judges and exhibitors. Unfortunately we had several judge changes starting the day of closing and up to Sunday morning, but thanks to wonderful last minute judges coming in to help, and the panel agreeing to additions, local judges jumping in, Tonya and James of MBF sorting out the details, AND the exhibitors being patient with us, we made it through.

As Chair for the Hernando County Kennel Club licensed shows for 2012 and 2013 I would like to thank the entire Show Committee for their extra hard work this year – as the Florida Classic Park corporation rented us the mowed 50 acres and we were off to the races doing all the things previously provided as a part of the rent. But thanks to the Committee’s hard work, and attention to detail – ESPECIALLY my Grounds and Equipment Chair Bob Keohane, we pulled it off.

The November Hernando County KC show weekend is looked on by many as the relaxed weekend on the Brooksville show grounds; sort of a warm-up for the big January circuit. If the November shows are any indication, in 2014 the big January circuit should be back to its previous glory.
