How Dogs Rule Our Worlds

In our own little worlds, sometimes we aren’t the first priority, whether our kids, a significant other, or, yes, even our four-legged friends come before us. There always seems to be something that we put ahead of ourselves.

Most DFR readers may be able to relate to the fact that dogs often do indeed “rock” or “rule” our worlds. We, of course, create household dos and don’ts for them, as if they can understand our explanations of these rules. Regardless, in many cases our dogs walk about our homes as if they are the kings and queens of our so-called space.

As far as the rules go, they may be called rules, but if you know your dogs at all, then you know that rules are meant to be broken!

Lots of dog owners resolve not to let their dogs sleep in their beds, but that’s a rule that often goes by the wayside quickly. Photo by Can Stock Photo.

For example, you may say, “OK, no dogs allowed in the bedroom.” That will eventually turn into: “Dogs are allowed in the bedroom only at certain times, but no sleeping on the bed.” Until they give you that puppy-dog look, and another rule is broken. In some homes, it ends up with the dogs dishing out the rules.

If this is the case in your home or in a friend’s, you’ll find some pretty funny comics here on the Off The Leash Daily Dog Cartoons Facebook page that explore exactly this type of household.

Now don’t get me wrong. It is important to set rules in and outside of the house, but it’s also important to let your dog just be a dog sometimes. By that I mean that almost all dogs will get into trouble at some point, but sometimes they learn right from wrong through their mischievous behavior or simply by exploring the world we live in.

I have to say, no matter how many pairs of shoes my Corgi decides to snack on or how much room my Beagle takes up on my bed, they are always there to make me smile, no matter how many rules were broken in the process!

Make sure to leave a comment below telling me how your dogs rule your world, what rules they’ve broken and which ones you’ve changed because of their behavior!

Just one more reason Dogs Freakin’ Rule!
