Junior Handlers Have Months to Qualify

Summer is a beautiful season for most junior handlers. It’s when you get to spend more time in the ring with your four-legged friends and less time behind desks listening to lectures.

With all of this extra time spent at shows, it seems as though many current junior handlers are making leaps and bounds in the ring. That’s right, a big congratulations to everyone who is now qualified for either AKC/Eukanuba or Westminster, and for those of you who are qualified for both AKC/Eukanuba and and Westminster Kennel Club 2014.

For those juniors who are qualified, now is a great time to get in your paperwork for these two qualifying shows. Believe me, doing this now will relieve a lot of the stress, and it will give you peace of mind that everything is taken care of.

In case you are unsure of the dates, you can go here for all of the details. And as a reminder for those wishing to compete at AKC/Eukanuba, don’t forget to submit official transcripts or homeschool information no later than October 25, 2013.

If you still need those last few wins to qualify, not to worry. You still have a few months remaining. Just a friendly reminder: in order to qualify to compete at AKC/Eukanuba, you must have your five first place wins by October 9, 2013, and to qualify for Westminster 2014 you will need to have been awarded seven Best Junior Handler awards by October 31, 2013.

I had the chance to reach out to some DFR readers on Facebook, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that 90 percent of you who had the chance to respond to how many wins you have thus far have already qualified for both Eukanuba and Westminster! How awesome is that?! Some of you even noted that you have 15-plus first place and Best Junior Handler awards! It’s really great to hear from all of you on your amazing accomplishments! I will be crossing my fingers for those of you who are working hard to earn those last few wins to qualify.

Keep an eye out for my next DFR highlighting today’s top three junior handlers. You won’t want to miss it!

A special thanks to everyone who took the time to give feedback on Facebook!
