I just posted on my Dog Show Poop site the results of today’s Lewis-Clark Kennel Club show in Lewiston, ID, the last show of the past weekend. Today’s BIS was the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore. It was the second of the set for Ally and handler Tim Brazier. Ally is but one of five dogs posting multiple BIS this weekend.
Also taking home multiple BIS was the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH D’s Remember When, who picked up bookends at the Springfield Kennel Club & the South Windsor Kennel Club shows in West Springfield, MA. We had two multiple winners in Terre Haute, IN, this week with the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, winning both the opener (Terre Haute Kennel Club 1) and the closer (Bloomington Indiana Kennel Club 2) and the Harrier, GCH CH Downhome Hitech Innovator, posted BACK2BACK BIS, collecting the big rosettes at the BIKC’s day one and the THKC’s day two show on Friday & Saturday.
The Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Mowgli, loved getting his first Best in Show of the year at Friday’s Burbank Kennel Club show in City of Industry, CA, so much that he decided to do it again on Saturday at the day one show of the Angeles Canyon Dog Club. He then followed that win with another at the ACDC show on Sunday.
So what does it mean when we see one dog picking up more than one BIS at one venue? More cynical folk might point to the lack of competition at a show. However, most of these dogs were challenged by a Top Twenty dog in their finals. To me, the most plausible explanation is timing. Every now and then all the planets align with a dog. All the breeding, conditioning, training, grooming & presentation come together, and the dog knows it. The result is a weekend with a dog that is a delight to show. And for this spectator a joy to watch. And that’s today’s Back Story.
