Lots of Louisville

CH AfterAll Painting The Sky

Day One is over in Louisville and I am recovering from a day of dog show gluttony. I got an early start and managed to stop by several of the breed rings during the first couple of hours. As I have noted, Louisville is one of the stops of the season where you expect to see the nation’s Top Dogs and this year was no different. Eleven of the top 15 dogs all breeds are in Louisville, seeking a share of the more than 12,500 all-breed points to be distributed.

However, only one of the country’s Top Five Sporting Dogs is here competing, the nation’s Number Two Dog All Breeds, the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova. It turned out to be a wonderful day for Peyton as she managed to grab the Sporting Group first place today. Likewise, only one of the U.S.’ Top Five Hounds showed up, the Longhaired Dachshund, GCH CH Hundeleben Queen’s Armada SL. Cheese was rewarded with a Hound Group Two and an additional 300 points. The Working Group was better represented with three of AKC’s Top Five Working Dogs present. However, only one managed a group placement, the Kuvazs, GCH CH Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence, who made it all the way to the BIS ring.

The Terrier Group also managed a Best in Show with four of the Top Five gathering (the fifth is retired). Two of the four, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, and the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Perrisblu Kennislain’s Chelsey, finished one/two in the group. The Toy Group always comes to play and three of the top five were in the hall. Two, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, and the Pekingese, GCH CH Windemere’s Dusting of White at Pevyne, finished one and four in the group.

Only one of the Top Five Non-Sporting Dogs was able to make it, but it was the Number One Non-Sporting Dog, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Jaset’s London, and he made it pay, adding another Group One to his impressive tally. The Herding Group came en masse with four of the Top Five present. Two nailed down group awards. The Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Lambluv Gambolon Blue Thunder, picked up a Two and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Rocheuses Me and My Shadow of Cornus snagged a Group Three. Who won? It was the Wire Fox, Sky, piling up the big points. We won’t know until next week if it was enough to get her into the Top Twenty, but we do know we will be the first to tell you so. And that’s today’s Back Story.
