Louisville Breakout Performances

One of the things I love about the Kentuckiana Cluster in Louisville KY is the opportunity to see a breakout performance.

CH Tupelo Axel Rose Br

The American Brussels Griffon Association recused itself from yesterday’s Mid-Kentucky Kennel Club show to hold its 2013 National Specialty. Breeder judge John Constantine went over 89 entries before choosing Tupelo Axel Rose Br his Best In Specialty Show. Three-year-old Scruffy spent last year in Europe, picking up multiple titles. If you are in Louisville, stop by the Griff ring and take a look at the little black dog. Scruffy was bred by the late Ray Kolesar and Patti Kolesar Stoltz, who co-owns Scruffy with Jan Saba. Scruffy was handled by Louis Martin Del Rio of Spain. Congratulations to them all!

While Edd Bivin’s Best In Show winner, the country’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, is a dog familiar to even the casual fancier, his Reserve winner, the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH Dogwdcreek’s La Vita E Belle, is less well-known. Bella was 2012’s Number One German Shorthaired Pointer with three BIS and nine Sporting Groups. Yesterday was her first final appearance of 2013. I had the chance to see Bella a few times in 2012. If you haven’t seen her, seek her out. You will be glad you did. Congratulations to breeder/owner Lynne Duncan & Valerie Nunes-Atkinson.

CH CH ABERDEEN'S UNDER THE INFLUENCE.

GCH CH Aberdeen’s Under the Influence

Another dog we got to see several times last year was the Otterhound, GCH CH Aberdeen’s Under the Influence. The Otterhound is one of the rarest of the AKC breeds, ranking 168 out of 175 in number of registrations in 2012. DUI has one Hound Group One this year and a very impressive Hound Group Four at last month’s Westminster Kennel Club show. Congratulations to breeders/owners Jack, Andy & Jason McIlwaine, and handler Carlos Puig. Do look for this one. I can’t promise you that you will see another big-winning Otterhound in your lifetime.

Louisville is a great place to see dogs that will be among the Top Twenty by year’s end. I urge you to put the Kentuckiana Cluster on your annual schedule. And that’s today’s Back Story.
