Michigan Gets a ‘Peke’ at The Big Dog … All Eleven Pounds of Him

Mar 1, 2012 04:08 America/Los_Angeles

2012 Westminster Kennel Club Best In Show Ch.Palacegarden Malachy, a.k.a Malachy returns to Detroit for the 108th and 109th Detroit Kennel Club Dog Shows

When: March 3&4, 2012

Where: Cobo Center, Downtown Detroit

What: The two-day celebration of dogs brings more than 2,000 dogs from the 167 breeds and varieties recognized by the American Kennel Club. Show highlights include new demonstrations, obedience and conformation competition, rare breed exhibits and high flying four-legged competitions. New this year, the DKC welcomes purebred rescue and the Rock-N-Roll K9 Performance Team.
The 2012 Westminster Best In Show, Malachy, the four year old Pekingese that has taken the USA show scene by storm as the top winning Toy Dog in the USA for the past two years, will be available during Meet & Greet times on Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children (ages 3-12) and seniors (65 and over). Family packs (2 adults, 3 children) are also on sale for $40. Discount tickets are available exclusively at all Michigan Kroger locations. Dogs will be on display to the public and demonstrations will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Best in Show will go into the ring approximately 6 p.m. each day.

Background: The DKC shows are a ‘benched show’, which offer visitors the unique opportunity to meet with owners and breeders and learn about breed characteristics, temperament, care, health, grooming, history and other issues for dog owners. When dogs are not in the judging rings, they are required by the rules of the show to be displayed on a bench according to breed, making it easy for a spectator to talk to several breeders of a specific dog in the same location. The DKC Dog Shows are one of only five benched American Kennel Club (AKC) shows left in the United States (Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco and New York).

About Malachy: Last year, Malachy swept the DKC shows with back-to-back Best In Shows. He is now retired except for public appearances after his Best in Show at the 136th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on February 14, 2012 at Madison Square Garden which brought his total of Best in Shows to 115.

Contact: Kirsten Borgstrom, 517-331-3433

Malachy arrives on Friday 3/2 and is available for interviews Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday. Please call Kirsten Borgstrom for availability and to schedule an interview.
