A weekend of firsts!
This weekend was a superb weekend for All Breed and Specialty Shows. We’d like to kick off our article with hearty congratulations to breeder-owner Carol Houlihan & owner Katherine Sullivan, and handler David Williams for their first ever to be awarded BIS to a Portuguese Podengo Pequeno, their Ch Houla’s Potter at the Galveston County Kennel Club on March 16, 2014 under Judge Dr. Carol White Moser. Please join us in in congratulating everyone involved with this lovely dog.

Over in Louisville, Eukanuba offered an outstanding new program, Puppy Spectacular. The history making award for Best Puppy in Show went to breeder, owner, handler Marcelo Chagas for Torquay Midnight Victory “Victoria” a beautiful beagle from the 4-6 month class. The Inaugural Eukanuba Puppy Spectacular (all-breed futurity) was held on Saturday, March 15th in Louisville, Kentucky. The judges crowning the Eukanuba Future Star were Nina Fetter, William P. Shelton, Carlos Puig, Doug Johnson, Tommy O, and Bruce Schwartz.   Victoria has a terrific background, it’s no surprise she’s off to such a great start:  her mother is MBIS MBISS GCH Torquay Midnight Confession “Lola” who is the #1 wining Beagle in AKC history. Her sire is Gretchen Milke’s GCH Bridgehill’s Mr. Mason’s Misbehavin’ – 2013′s number  #1 Beagle & a back to back National Specialty winner (12 & 13). This was also Victoria’s first time in the show ring! Owned by Dr. Roger Travis, Marcelo Chagas. Marco and Alessandra Botelho. .

Bests Around The Country
Delaware County Kennel Club. Again back-to-back Best In Shows were given, this time to English Setter GCH Weymouth’s En Fuego by Ms. Theresa Hundt and Mr. Peter Machen. Saturday had a strong entry of 2701 and Sunday’s entry was 2146. “Blaze” is owned by Sandra Nordstrom, Glenn & Sue Godly & Penny DeSiena and handled by Katie Shepherd.

Del Sur. This year exhibitors and fanciers enjoyed spectacular weather at the Nut Farm. Entries were 1277 for Sunday & 1266 for Saturday. Afghan hound GCH Thaon’s Wall Street collected back-to-back Best In Shows on Saturday under Dr. Robert Smith and Sunday under Ms. Linda More. “Wally” is owner handled by Jay Hafford & owned by James Blanchard, Debbie & J.W. Rogers.

Heart of America Kennel Club. Kansas City, Missori. On Saturday, Mr. Peter Green’s selection for BIS out an entry of 1380 dogs, was English Springer Ch Telltale American Ride. Owned by Celie Florence, Beth Fink, D Streng and owner handler Robin Novack. On Sunday, Mrs. Beth Sweigert awarded BIS to Standard Poodle Ch Dawin Hearts on Fire from an entry of 1339 dogs. Owned by Linda Campbell and handled by Sarah Perchick.

Ft. Lauderdale Kennel Club. With an entry of 552, Saturday’s Judge Mr. Joseph Joly selected Miniature Pinscher GCh Marlex Classic Red Glare “Classie”. This puts this lovely bitch one BIS away from tying the all-time Toy Record held by Ch. Yakee If only. “Classie” is owner handled by Armando Angelbello and co-owned by Leah Monte. On Sunday, Saturday’s RBIS, GCh Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie was awarded the BIS ribbon by Mr. Frank Sabella out of 549 entries. “Charlie” is owned by Victor Malzoni, Jr. and handled by Larry Cornelius.

Houston & Galveston Kennel Clubs. On Saturday, Mr. Brian Meyer awarded Cardigan Welsh Corgi Ch Riverside Telltail Coco Posh BIS out of an entry of 1116 dogs. Coco’s had a strong start this year, winning the Herding Group at Westminster Kennel Club and now, her first Best In Show this year. She’s the number one Cardigan All-Breed & Breed. “Coco” is owned by Dina Planche, Deb Shindle, Julie & Bill Divens and handled by Louis De Mers.

Kentuckiana Cluster. A wonderful weekend all round for the Johnsons and Swagger as they took home the big prize every evening in Louisville. Awarded BIS by Judges Mr. James Noe, Dr. Alan Krause, Mrs. Patricia Trotter, Mr. David Bolus,Swagger defeated more than 3000 dogs each day, making the number one All-Breeds quite a contest. Swagger is owned by Ron Scott, Debbie Burke, C&H Johnson, D&M Johnson and always owner handled by Colton Johnson. Swagger is a young dog with many memorable wins, including Westminster Kennel Club’s RBIS in 2013. We expect to see him continue his winning trajectory.

Field Spaniel GCh Pardon Me Boys “Ginger”

New England Sporting Group Association had entries of 699 Saturday and 694 Sunday. It’s always an impressive show and this year, the Association outdid themselves with the largest & prettiest ribbons awarded over the weekend. Saturday’s Best In Specialty Show Winner was awarded to Field Spaniel GCh Pardon Me Boys “Ginger” by Mrs. Paula Nykiel. She is owned by Georgette Perry, Corinne Dooley, & Nichole Dooley Bunch, and presented by Jessica Thibault. Ginger is the number one Field Spaniel in breed points. On Sunday, the BISS ribbon was awarded to Chesapeake Bay Retriever GCh Poisett’s Doctor Mallard, bred & owned by Pauline Henshaw and Annie Henshaw; a top 10 Chessie in breed points.

York Kennel Club, York, PA. On Saturday, Mr. Charles Olvis selected GCh Claircreek Impression de Matisse for his BIS award, out of an entry of 1751 dogs. Matisse is handled by Michael Scott and owned by Milan Lint, Peggy Helming & Donna Gottdenker. As of Feb 2014, Matisse is the number one dog “Top Twenty Groups,” “the number one All Breed PWD” with an impressive 20,244 points and the number one PWD in breed points. Always an exciting dog to watch.
