You likely know Kayla Bertagnolli’s name because you’ve seen her at a lot of dog shows in 2012, taking photographs for Best In Show Daily. And if you’ve visited our Show Albums section, you’re aware of the fine work she does behind a camera. But she’s not too bad at the keyboard either.
On this, the last day of our look back at the Top 10 articles from each of our major contributors, we take a moment to consider Kayla’s most read prose of 2012. Her DFR blog – Dogs Freakin’ Rule, for the uninitiated – often focuses on Junior Showmanship. As a former junior herself, Kayla holds dear the sport that helps create future handlers and breeders. Yet only three of her Top 10 blogs were specifically about juniors.
Her Number 1 blog was about heading off to the National Dog Show in Philadelphia for the very first time in her many years in dogs. Another favorite was “The Happy Dance,” about the wonderful interaction between handler and dog after a win. Her Number 4 caught attention, we think, because it explored the value of National Specialties.
For a fresh perspective on a sport that many of us have been in for decades, we suggest pouring that last glass of eggnog and taking a little DFR time. We’re pretty sure you’ll get a few smiles and even some inspiration from our favorite young writer-photographer.
