Sand, Surf & Show Dogs

El Morro Fort, San Juan, Puerto Rico

Just about everywhere you turn this week, there will be a dog show nearby. We have 39 all-breed shows in 15 different locations this week, including two island vacation spots.

If you are in the Northeast, you have your choice of two in Richmond, RI, with the South County Kennel Club or three in Bear, DE, with the Wilmington Kennel Club & the Penn Treaty Kennel Club. If you have more free time, drop in on the Beckley West Virginia Kennel Club & the Magic Valley Kennel Club for their four-day cluster in Lewisburg, VA.

Here in the South, your options are all of the traditional Saturday-Sunday variety. Here in my area, we have the Maury County Kennel Club Of Tennessee in Franklin, TN, near Nashville. The Myrtle Beach Kennel Club will be 70 miles from the Atlantic in Florence, SC, while the Treasure Coast Kennel Club of Florida will be at the Indian River County Fairgrounds just minutes from the surf in Vero Beach, FL.

In the Great Lakes region, your options are the Fort St. Clair Kennel Club’s two all-breed shows in Eaton, OH, the Progressive Dog Club of Wayne County‘s two all-breed shows & the Terrier Club of Michigan’s limited breed event in Birch Run, MI, or Thursday through Sunday with the Champaign Illinois Kennel Club, the Sandemac Kennel Club & the Mattoon Kennel Club in Decatur, IL.

Six hours west of Decatur is Marshalltown, IA, where you can spend two days this weekend with the Heart of Iowa Kennel Club. Six hours west of Marshalltown is Grand Island, NE, where the Seward County Kennel Club will entertain you for two days. The Baytown Kennel Club’s two shows are in Crosby, TX, 900 miles & 15 hours south of Grand Island.

Out West, you have a choice between a weekend in Walla Walla, WA, with the hometown kennel club or Saturday & Sunday in Chino, CA, courtesy of the Lake Matthews Kennel Club. For those of you looking for an excuse to combine sand, surf & show dogs, we can recommend the Caribe Kennel Club’s & the Ponce Kennel Club’s four shows in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, and the Valley Isle Kennel Club Of Maui’s weekend in Kihei, HI.  Imagine, Mai Tais & Mastiffs, Pina Coladas & Pekingese, Tequila Sunrises & Tibetan Spaniels…well, you get the idea.  And that’s today’s Back Story.
