Poodle Day in California: A Very Different “Dog Show”

How many shows can you think of that attract more than 500 dogs of one single breed? Even the biggest national specialties seldom have that many canine participants, and most have far fewer. Yet it’s a fact that a very informal, single-breed charity event for Poodles that’s been held in California over the past four years has developed into one of the country’s — if not the world’s — largest gathering places for ANY breed. This “show” is, admittedly, rather different from your usual run-of-the-mill dog show: it is not organized by a kennel club, there is no conformation competition, and even the occasional Poodle mix may participate — all of which somehow adds to its charm.

Harrods’ of London to Close Pet Department, Kennel Gazette to Cease Publication

IT HAS long been an issue with many in the animal welfare world in the UK that the world-famous Harrods department store had a pet department, well Dog World readers were overjoyed last week when the company announced it is to close its pet department saying it was based on ‘commercial factors only’.

The department, called Pet Kingdom, which is located on the fourth floor of Harrods will apparently become extra space for women’s wear: “Employees have been informed and Harrods is working with them to find alternative positions in the store where possible,” a spokesman said.

United Kennel Club Recognizes Barn Hunt Titles in 2014!

December 10, 2014. The United Kennel Club is excited to announce that, beginning January 1, 2014, we will be recognizing Barn Hunt titles earned through the Barn Hunt Association LLC.

The UKC Dog Events Department is always looking for new and exciting programs that support our vision of the Total Dog. Barn Hunt is an excellent test of a dog’s natural scenting ability and prey drive. During Barn Hunt trials dogs also have to be agile enough to maneuver through tunnels and climb over stacks of hay to find their prey. more
