I’ve just finished updating my statistics and have the following to share. As I wrote here on Sunday, we have a new Number One Dog All Breeds, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm. Oakley’s Best in Show performance at Sunday’s Trenton Kennel Club show moved him ahead of the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vid Vici, by about 1,200 points.
Also moving up in the standings were last year’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, and the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, moving into the Number Seven & Number Eight spots, respectively. The Cocker, Beckham, was in Georgia picking up a BIS and a point-heavy Sporting Group One, while the Wire, Sky, rode the big Terrier entries in New Jersey to a massive point gain with an all-breed Best, two Terrier Group Firsts and one Group Three.
I’ve expanded my chart this week so you can see how tight the race is in the lower half of the Top Twenty. While there are more than 13,000 points separating Number One from Number Ten, there are fewer than 4,000 points between Number Ten and Number Twenty. The Boxer, GCH CH R and G’s Mystical Dancer, is fewer than 700 points away from joining the Top Ten. Those are just a couple of good group placements in the Working Group.
I would direct your attention to three dogs in the bottom half of the Top Twenty. While we have four Sporting Dogs in the Top Ten, only one Hound is in the Top Twenty, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box. Jewel, currently Number 14, could easily move up with just one good day. Last year’s Number One Herding Dog (all breeds), the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Babheim’s Captain Crunch, has regained the spot with two BIS in Missouri this past week. Finally, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH D’s Remember When, joins four other Working Dogs in the Top Twenty. Jackson has been burning it up lately with four BIS in the past few weeks and a big Group One at the Bucks County Kennel Club show in Pennsylvania this past weekend.
I expect lot of changes in the Top Twenty in the coming weeks, especially after the big Memorial Day weekend. You can wait weeks to find out, or you can read it here first on The Back Story.
