Testing a Cancer Vaccine, plus a Dog Show in Utah

A trial is under way at the University of Pennsylvania to test the safety of a cancer vaccine to treat osteosarcoma. Editor Susan Chaney interviews the lead researcher whose team is testing the genetically modified form of bacteria that prompt a dog’s immune system to get to work. Learn about the tumor protein that’s at the center of research that could one day save canine – and human – lives.

DFR Blogger Kayla Bertagnolli will be spending the weekend “watching, exhibiting and photographing” plenty of dog events in her home state of Utah. The Pocatello and Mount Ogden Kennel Clubs will welcome conformation, agility, obedience and rally exhibitors in the city of Logan. Find out about the specialties for Alaskan Malamutes and the special events planned for puppy dogs and junior handlers.

Be sure to check out our photo galleries, where you’ll find recent winners and candid photos from shows held near and far. Just click on Show Scene below the masthead banner, or select any of the images in the left-hand column of our home page.
