The Peke Prevails!

Congratulations to the winner of the 136th Westminster Kennel Club dog show, Pekingese GCh. Palacegarden Malachy, and his owners David Fitzpatrick, Iris Love and Sandra Middlebrooks. David, who admits that he has been in love with Pekingese since he was 14 years old, shed a few tears of surprise and joy when judge Cindy Vogels selected Malachy for Best in Show. Afterward, as the little dog settled himself onto a comfortable pad to face the press, one reporter said he seemed to “act like a cat,” a comment countered by David, who said, “No, he acts like a Pekingese!”

Read our reports of Monday and Tuesday night’s competition to learn the names of the lucky seven that made it into judge Cindy Vogels’ Best in Show line up.

Tuesday Night’s Westminster Finale
By Christi McDonald

Judge Terry Stacy officiated the first Group of the evening. Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction. ‘Beckham’ won the first Award of Merit under breed judge Dr. Donald Sturz in one of the day’s major upsets, with Ch. Mario N Beechwood’s Midnight Express, owned by Frank and Cathy Charest and Mark and Pam Ragusa, the Variety winner. more
