The USDAA World Cynosport Games, plus a Favorite Dog Book

The 2012 USDAA World Cynosport Games were held in Commerce City, Colo., and Editor Susan Chaney reports on the big event that drew 900 agility dogs and 600 handlers. In her interview with USDAA President Kenneth Tatsch and public relations organizer Annie DeChance, Susan learns how improved training has produced agility competitors at a whole new level. Find out more about the games where agility, dock diving and Course-A-Lure give people a way to get out and have fun with their dogs.

A dog book, circa 1976, presents the AKC-recognized breeds in a manner that’s not exactly politically correct. When the author couldn’t find a book that told him what he wanted to know, he wrote one himself. “Choosing the Right Dog: A Buyer’s Guide to All 121 Breeds” is a favorite of mine largely due to its forthright presentation. Find out how one man’s search for a pet created a snapshot of our view of dogs at the end of the 20th century.

These works have a special place in my heart, as well as in my library. more
