Therapy Dogs Move in Two Worlds, plus Spreading the Word About Dog Shows

Editor Susan Chaney has interviewed many dog owners who compete in a performance event one weekend, then visit a nursing home or library the next. In her report on two women who work with their dogs through Pet Partners, Susan discovers some of the many activities shared by competitors with a commitment to community service. Meet the Newfoundland, Portuguese Water Dog and a few mixed -breeds that are enhancing the lives of the geriatric and university students alike.

During a recent show weekend, I spent of part of each day at a local Starbucks, where I enjoyed my grande medium roast – black – while taking advantage of the free WiFi. With each visit, I encountered exhibitors doing likewise as they shared stories of each day’s wins and losses. Find out how the baristas at one local business took part in the conversations and helped to spread the word about the dog shows in town.

Many of this year’s top show dogs are featured in their own beautiful mini-websites on Best In Show Daily. Simply click on a banner ad to see the dog’s up-to-date show history, plus a slide show of photos that reveals exactly why it’s a top dog.

Many a dog heads out one weekend to an agility match, then to the nursing home or library the next.At least that’s the case with a number of the performance dogs whose owners I’ve interviewed over the last year. more
