Third Time’s a Charm

This year marks the third year in a row, in fact in all of my years showing dogs, that I have been lucky enough to attend the first show of the year, the Palm Springs Kennel Club in Indio, Calif.

Now most of you are probably scratching your chin wondering as to why I have never attended this show in previous years. The answer is simply because it was a once a year dog show getaway for my mother and other attendees. Ironically I attended last year, and now this year as well, without my dog show traveling partner, my mother.

Though part of me wishes my mother and I were able to attend this year with a few of our Beagles to show, I have to say the other part of me is grateful that I am able to attend not only for myself, but to be able to pass along what makes this show true to the phrase, “starting the year off with a bang,” but to share with my DFR readers, friends and family.

First off, just check out this view…

A behind-the-scenes look at the beautiful Palm Springs show venue.

While it’s snowing in my home state of Utah, this place is all sunshine. What could be better?

Not only is it beautiful weather, with a beautiful setup, but the energy of the exhibitors is like no other. Everywhere you look there seem to be a lot of positive things happening and excitement.

This year I did notice that the first two days were a bit more laid-back with independent specialties happening, and, by the third and fourth days when the all-breed shows took place, the people and dogs tripled in number, as did the excitement.

Many of you may have your very own first show of the year story, and I would love to hear them, so don’t forget to leave a comment below telling me all about it!

The show year is officially kicked off with Dogs that Freakin’ Rule!

Enjoyed the photos and comments, but *TOTALLY* disappointed that most of the hound group photos were the ‘big guns’. I won a huge breed in whippets with a young dog, and hoped to see a shot or two of him in there…..

    Hi Jill,

Thank you for your comment! I have yet to post all of my photos yet, in fact on average while at the shows I tend to post the group 1-4 & candids that catch my eye! Please keep a look out for more photos! I remember your dog quite well as I am a hound lover! Congrats on your win!
