Time to Tally Up Your Wins for the Master Class! New Dates!

Calling all conformation junior handlers! It’s officially the second year of the Master class, and let’s just say there was quite a buzz going around all year about it.

Good, right? Well, mostly.

Either way, it’s safe to say that this is sticking around, and I’m confident that everyone is now feeling comfortable with the change!

So, if you are sitting around wondering just how many wins you have toward entering this class so far in the new year, wonder no more! That’s right. It’s official. The Master class dates are now consistent with the AKC/Eukanuba qualifying dates. That means it’s time to tally up how many first-place wins you have from October 11, 2012, until now. Keep in mind that the AKC/Eukanuba qualifying dates are October 11, 2012 through October 9, 2013.

Some shows, like National Specialties and limited juniors competitions, can boost your record significantly. You may want to try them out, not only to have fun, but to work on getting your wins to become eligible for various events. These include qualifying for AKC/Eukanuba in December 2013 and Westminster Kennel Club in 2014.

For any newcomers, just remember that when you have gained 10 wins in the Open class, with competition, you are required to enter the Master class. The winner from the Master class then competes for Best Junior Handler with the other class winners.

I reached out to a few juniors, and they mentioned that some of their favorites for scoring big wins are: the Rose City Classic in Portland, Ore.; the Steel Valley Cluster in Canfield, Ohio; Montgomery County Kennel Club for all of you Terrier juniors; and the Oklahoma City Cluster, just to name a few! Hopefully these great ideas, recommended by other juniors, will get you thinking about what shows will make your “must attend” list for 2013.

So, remember the new dates for the Master class, and, of course, Dogs Freakin’ Rule!

Thanks for a great article and a great reminder. I was unaware of the date change for the wins for Masters :)

What happens to the wins from the Masters class that occurred after 10/11/12-10/31/12? Do those wins count towards wind for this years Masters class?
