Today’s Top Twenty

After tabulating the results of the last two weeks’ 89 all-breed shows, I am left in a bit of a fog. But I  have to say this is one of the most exciting scenes we have seen recently. The competition is fierce. The dogs are beautiful, and we have some breeds in the Top Twenty that are among AKC’s rarest. The German Wirehaired Pointer GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm leads all dogs, nearly  4,000 points ahead of the field. However, the Number Two & Three dogs, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, & the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Wynmoor Champagne Supernova, are only 1,000 points apart.

The next three dogs, the Kuvasz GCH CH Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence, the Affenpinscher GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, & the Miniature Pinscher GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, trail the leaders by about 5,000 points. Just a couple of thousand points behind are Numbers Seven, Eight & Nine, the Black Cocker Spaniel GCH CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Standard Poodle GCH CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, & the Wire Fox Terrier GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, are within 700 points of one another.

One of the more intriguing situations this year has been the all important Number Ten spot in our rankings. It is a big deal to be in the Top Ten Dogs All Breeds. For most breeders and owners, it is the pinnacle of a career. I have the Number Ten, Eleven & Twelve dogs within 184 points of one another, a virtual tie. While my numbers have a 0.5 percent margin of error, this one is too close to call. The American Foxhound GCH CH Kerry’s Pandora’s Box, the English Setter GCH CH Oakley’s Bedazzled & the Boxer GCH CH R and G’s Mystic Dancer can all lay legitimate claim to the Number Ten spot.

The next three dogs, the Standard Poodle GCH CH Brighton Lake Ridge Encore, the Kerry Blue Terrier GCH CH Perusable Kennislain’s Chelsey & the Pekingese GCH CH Windemere’s Dusting Of White At Pevyne, are nearly as tightly grouped, some 3,000 points behind. The Number 16 Dog All Breeds, the Bouvier des Flandres GCH CH Rocheuses Me and My Shadow at Cornus, the Number One Herding Dog, is followed by the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH D’s Remember When & the Number Two Herding Dog, the German Shepherd Dog GCH CH Babheim’s Captain Crunch, less than 1,000 points behind.

Rounding out our Top Twenty are the Maltese GCH CH Scylla’s Small Kraft Re-Lit and the Boxer GCH CH Winfall I Dream of Style. This week’s shows are already underway. Remember, only on Dog Show Poop will you get up-to-the-minute rankings and only on Best In Show Daily will you get The Back Story.
