Treatments for Osteoarthritis, plus Blogging from Thailand

“Most canine osteoarthritis is diagnosed as the result of a regular veterinary checkup when the owner makes an ‘off-the-cuff’ comment.” So says a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Editor Susan Chaney’s latest interview. Although the disease that affects one in five adult dogs has no known cure, the long-term chronic condition can be managed through several treatment options. Greetings from Thailand! When it comes to owners’ lives revolving around their dogs, it seems that people in this country take things to a whole new level.

When you are a breeder here or in surrounding countries, you must work twice as hard to perfect the arts of breeding and exhibiting. It was really strange for me to see this since we don’t have too many strays living on the streets in the states. more

It’s always hard to watch our dogs age – even when they’re healthy. Many dogs, however, and their owners will face the same diagnosis as they age – osteoarthritis.

Sometimes we write it off to our beloved canines simply slowing down as they get older, but it’s a mistake to do that, says Darryl Millis, D.V.M., a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and a professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville. more
