UKC 2012 Grand Nationals, plus Animal Intuition

Editor Susan Chaney reports on the United Kennel Club’s 2012 Grand Nationals that took place late last month at the Purina Events Center in Gray Summit, Mo. Susan interviews the registry’s executive director of performance events to learn about its “Total Dog” philosophy. Find out how far some competitors traveled to compete at this year’s multi-discipline event, and meet the German Shorthaired Pointer crowned Total Dog Best in Show.

The recent superstorm that pummeled the Eastern U.S. made landfall just as meteorologists predicted. As residents prepared for Hurricane Sandy’s arrival last Monday, many of the animals that live among us were also busy making arrangements of their own. Find out how animal intuition seemed to direct a dog, a pair of ducks and a couple of squirrels to prepare for one of the most damaging storms on record.
