We Have Video!

As much as I wax nostalgic for the “good old days” in the dog game, I have to face the fact that I am addicted to modern technology. Let’s face it, you would not be reading my rambling ruminations were it not for the blogosphere, Facebook & Twitter. One of the additions to our Internet offerings in recent years has been the addition of live streaming of dog events.

This weekend all of us can attend the Belle-City Winter Classic & the Show Dog Championship at the Purina Farms Event Center near St. Louis, MO, thanks to barknetwork’s live streaming coverage. All you need to do is visit the site at 4:15 p.m. EST tomorrow, 3 March 2012. With 11 specialty events preceding the all-breed action, more than 1,200 dogs will compete for a chance to appear before the cameras. There will also be companion coverage on Pro Plan’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/proplan) on March 3 at 4:30 p.m. EST with comprehensive coverage of the Group and Best in Show judging as it is happening live. In addition to the online, live streaming and Facebook presence, Group & BIS judging will be taped for later broadcast and will air nationally via syndication from March 31 – May 27. Visit www.carsonevents.com to get airdates and times in your area of the country.

Next weekend, starting on 8 March is the venerable British institution, the Crufts Dog Show. A four-day, 28,000 dog extravaganza, which has as much pomp & circumstance as any an unabashed anglophile, like me, could ask for. Yet, Crufts is in the forefront of exploiting modern technology. Visit the Crufts home page and you will find links to its Facebook, Twitter & YouTube accounts. It’s the YouTube presence that is the most impressive. Crufts will broadcast live on YouTube all four days, covering Breed, Group and Best in Show judging. Visit the official Crufts site and amble through the extensive library in preparation of the 2012 show. It’s the next best thing to being there, and you don’t have to put up with airport security or the nasty British weather.

Starting 15 March, I will be in Louisville, KY, for the Kentuckiana Cluster, very likely the biggest weekend of the year, with four huge all-breed shows & dozens of specialty events. I won’t be offering you live streaming video, but I will be doing real-time results on Twitter (@ DogShowPoop & @BestInShowDaily), show reports on Dog Show Poop, & all the Back Story right here on Best In Show Daily. Join me as I look for my next DOG2WATCH. And that’s today’s Back Story.
