‘Welcome to Best in Show Daily’

“The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,” according to 1970’s Jazz poet Gil Scott-Heron, but in 2012 it most certainly will be blogged, tweeted and “friended” on Facebook!

Welcome to Best In Show Daily, the revolutionary new online publication serving the dog show community. Beginning this year, our experienced team will bring you up-to-the-minute coverage of the events that are important to you. Nowhere else can you find world-class coverage delivered in real-time and in a format that is truly multi-media. We’re certain that you’ll discover we are the best way to get informed, stay connected, and be entertained.

BISD presents your dogs in living color through digital media (including video) that has never been available, until now. Our twitter feeds and blogs will keep you “in the know”, allowing access to show news no matter where you are or what you’re doing.

Our editorial staff is sure to provide you with the results, standings and statistics you care about most. Christi McDonald, who apprenticed under legendary handlers Michael Kemp, Dora Lee Wilson, Houston & Toddie Clark and famed Poodle handler Robert N. Peebles, brings you her experience as both a successful handler and editor at the bourgeoning All-Breed publication, Dogs in Review. As editor of the famed Terrier Type magazine, Christi knows firsthand how to combine an appreciation of the history of the sport with the excitement generated by today’s competitors. Her efforts are at once timeless and right on time.

Blogger extraordinaire Billy Wheeler has been attending dog shows as a spectator and exhibitor for over 40 years. He is a retired management consultant who has advised multiple organizations affiliated with the AKC and the Cat Fanciers Association on business management, long range planning, customer service, and legislative matters. After 25 years of living in the big cities of New York, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, he now resides in his hometown of Memphis TN with his wife, Brenda, her two Toy Poodles and his Cairn, Scottie, & IG. Billy is the man behind the popular Dog Show Poop and will also be bringing you a new blog, The Back Story. When he is not blogging, Billy can be found in the kitchen cooking, and listening to opera.

Social Media Maven Pilar Kuhn rocks the twitter feed by bringing you The Down and Back. Pilar entered the purebred dog world with her first Bouvier in 1998 and met her future husband, Rod Ott, at the 2008 Eukanuba National Championship. The dynamic duo are a fixture at dog shows, exhibiting their own Bouviers and Scotties while Pilar handles additional breeds including Old English, Tervs, Swissies, Berners, Springers and English Setters, to name just a few. Pilar credits her grooming mentors, Judy Kasper (Bouviers) and Al Jennings (Scottish Terriers) with much of her success. A published writer in monthly and quarterly publications, Pilar graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Northwestern University. Her extensive experience producing audience acquisition, experiential marketing campaigns and brand videos for the likes of Intel, Amgen, Suzuki, and Honda gives her insight into current marketing and social network trends. Pilar uses Facebook daily (1,055 “friends” and growing) as well as Twitter and Google+. Her network of friends and colleagues spans the world.

Editorial consultant, Susan Chaney has spent two decades in publishing, as a reporter and editor at a community newspaper in the desert of Southern California, as a copy editor at Inside.com in Los Angeles, and as an editor at Dog Fancy magazine and DogChannel.com. Although she has never bred or shown herself, Susan has surrounded herself with dogs throughout her life.

Twenty-one year old Kayla Bertagnolli hails from Ogden, UT and grew up in the sport of dogs. Together with her mom Leah, Kayla has bred both Beagles & Cockers and began showing at the tender age of 8. She competed for eight years in Junior Showmanship and was fortunate to have “the greatest Juniors dog” in ‘Parker’, sire of Westminster BIS winner, ‘Uno’. Kayla has worked for Don Rodgers and assisted Bruce & Tara Schultz from whom she says she’s learned much about life and the love for dogs. While attending college, Kayla was part of a performing arts group, The Young Americans, where she danced, sang & provided outreach to teens. Her experiences in the ring and on the stage have helped to shape her young voice. She’ll be reporting on all the things that Juniors want to know through her blog DFR (Dogs Freakin’ Rule!)

As editor-in-chief, Dan Sayers will be sure to keep you informed, entertained and, perhaps occasionally, intrigued. Dan’s life “in dogs” began on an escalator at the old Philadelphia Civic Center. After purchasing his ticket, he descended from street level to the carnival of canines below and, before his feet hit the basement floor, he was totally spellbound. Dan has participated in the sport for over 30 years and his interests are many and varied. He’s a graduate of Drexel University and has bred or exhibited many Spaniel and Hound breeds. Dan enjoys illustration, oil painting and book collecting and has written the AKC Gazette’s Irish Water Spaniel breed column for over ten years. His articles and illustrations have appeared in many publications, including Dog World, Sighthound Review and Our Dogs. Dan has photographed the world’s most famous dog shows for Dogs in Review and his illustrations will appear in a soon-to-be published canine encyclopedia.

Whether you’re a handler, breeder, owner, exhibitor, spectator, judge, club member (or all of the above), Best In Show Daily is for you. Our interactive format, with custom apps and RSS feeds, is a truly revolutionary way for you to stay in touch with your community. You won’t want to miss out on this valuable resource.

Incidentally, the revolution has only just begun…

Dan Sayers started “in dogs” through a chance encounter with a Springer Spaniel in 1980. A student of dogs ever since, he’s shown Spaniels and Hounds in the conformation ring and breeds Irish Water Spaniels under the Quiet Storm prefix. A dog lover with a passion for the creative arts, Dan has worked as a freelance writer, photographer and illustrator for many years. His feature articles and columns have appeared in Dogs in Review, Dog World and the AKC Gazette, and his design work has appeared in dozens of publications in North America and abroad. An interest in all things “dog” brought Dan to Best In Show Daily, where he gets to work with the most dynamic group of fanciers every day. He lives in Merchantville, New Jersey, with his partner, Rudy Raya, Irish Water Spaniel, Kurre, and the memory of Oscar, a once-in-a-lifetime Sussex Spaniel.

Thanks, Patty. It was great to see you again too! We’re very excited at Best In Show Daily to provide the dog fancy with its first all-inclusive, easy-to-navigate website.

The credit for creating our dynamic team of professionals goes to Silicon Valley veterans Rich Goldman and Tony Moroyan who, together with longtime fancier Kayla Kurucz, have built a kind of community center where fanciers can receive all the latest news and information. Soon we’ll be providing a daily newsletter in addition to our live coverage via Twitter, podcasts and Facebook direct from the show sites. If it’s happening in the dog world, we’ll be reporting on it here at Best In Show Daily.

Stay tuned. There’s so much more to come…
