Westminster 2013 Judging Panel and Tummy Rubs

Last week, the Westminster Kennel Club released the names of the fortunate 44 schedule for the 2013 judging panel. Today Senior Editor Christi McDonald digs into their histories as both judges and winning handlers at the beloved Garden show. You’ll also see a list of all those who will step into the rings in New York as judges for the first time.

In the Down and Back today, Social Media Maven Pilar Kuhn writes about the many quiet moments she’s shared with one of her dogs. Since he was a puppy, Garrison has given our blogger ample opportunity for reflection. A tummy rub, it seems, and a sigh of contentment are all that’s needed to reinforce the bond they share.

The 2013 Westminster Judges
By Christi McDonald
Is reading about Westminster in May something like finding Christmas decorations in your favorite store before Halloween? That may be, but the panel of judges for Westminster 2013 was released last week, so it’s an opportune time share the names of those who’ll make the decisions in February.

Heading the panel as Best in Show judge is Michael Dougherty of California, one of 43 judges on the list for next year’s Westminster Kennel Club. Judging the Sporting Group will be Karen Wilson; Luc Boileau will judge the Hound Group; Bob Vandiver, Working; Jay Richardson, Terrier; Dennis McCoy, Toy; Florence Males, Non-Sporting; and Chuck Trotter, Herding. more

Morning Tummy Rubs Are the Best

By Pilar Kuhn
Every morning, our Bouvier boy Garrison jumps up on our bed and curls up at my feet for a while. Some mornings, he lets us know he would love some cuddle time and a tummy rub.

I love these moments.

We can always tell when it’s a tummy-rub morning by the way he wiggles his nub of a tail before he jumps up. He’ll leap effortlessly onto our bed, walk up to us and start licking our faces. more
