With Three You Get a Mountain

Mt. Baker in Washington State

We are ramping up for the huge Memorial Day weekend with 41 all-breed shows this week, the most so far this year. The action is already underway in Scarborough, ME, where the Vacationland Dog Club opened a four-day set with the York County Kennel Club of Maine. Out on Long Island, New York fanciers will be busy with a three-day, split-venue weekend. The Ladies’ Kennel Association of America will host Friday & Saturday in Oyster Bay, then the Long Island Kennel Club will take over on Sunday in Bethpage.

At the other end of the state is Alexander, NY, halfway between Rochester & Buffalo, where the Wyoming Valley Kennel Club (I know; I found it confusing too) will host two this weekend. Great Lakes residents have three more options this week. The Blennerhassett Kennel Club & the Greater Clarksburg, WV, Kennel Club start their four-day set today in Marietta, OH, while the Genesee County Kennel Club, Kokomo Kennel Club & the Oshkosh Kennel Club will each do the Saturday-Sunday thing in their respective towns of Corunna, MI, Greentown, IN, & Oshkosh, WI.

Here in the Midsouth, we have a four-day cluster 80 miles east of Memphis in Jackson, TN, courtesy of the Jackson Tennessee Dog Fanciers Association & the Clarksville Kennel Club. Exhibitors in East Tennessee also can opt for the Greater Kingsport Kennel Club’s two in Gray or the Mattaponi Kennel Club’s two in Manassas, VA.

The shows start to spread out from there (it’s a big country). 720 miles west of Jackson, TN, is Abilene, TX, where the hometown Abilene Kennel Club will do three shows. Corte,z CO, 737 miles northwest of Abilene, is the site of the Durango Kennel Club’s three shows. It’s 428 barren miles from Cortez to Logan, UT, where you can spend the weekend with the Mount Ogden Kennel Club.

Our West Coast choices this week are the Mt, Baker Kennel Club’s two shows in Lynden, WA, the Coyote Hills Kennel Club’s two shows in Vallejo, CA, or the Mt. Palomar Kennel Club’s two shows in Valley Center, CA. There are the added attractions of limited-breed warm-ups in Vallejo with the Northern California Non-Sporting Dog Club and in Valley Center with the Toy Dog Fanciers of North San Diego County.

What a week! When else can you choose among dog shows with three different mountains? All of this is prologue to next week’s 53 all-breed shows. Now there’s got to be a Back Story in there somewhere.
