World Dog Show Begins and an Apple Blossom Preview
The World Dog Show begins today in Salzburg, Austria, and Senior Editor Christi McDonald introduces Best In Show Daily readers to some of the many events that will be taking place over the next three days. More than 18,000 dogs from 55 countries have made their way to the city where Mozart was born and “The Sound of Music” was filmed. This time around, however, the hills are alive with the sound of barking!
Master Blogger Billy Wheeler will be heading to Kalamazoo, Mich., next week to take a bite out of the West Michigan Apple Blossom cluster of dog shows. Today he’s taking a look at the judging panels and entry breakdowns at the five all-breed shows that will welcome some of the country’s top dog-and-handler teams.

Each year the Fédération Cynologique Internationale sponsors the World Dog Show in a different country. In 2011 the location was Paris, and in 2012 it moves to Salzburg, Austria. The enormous event started today at the Salzburg Exhibition Centre and continues through Sunday, May 20. It is sponsored by the Austrian Kennel Club..
Austria is a familiar venue for the World Dog Show, as it has been held there three times: in 1976 in Innsbruck, in 1986 in Tulin and in 1996 in Vienna. This year World Show officials have prepared for the entry of 18,607 dogs from 55 different countries. more
